Die traditionelle Methode des japanischen Holzschnitts. Es werden keine ölbasierten Farben und Lösungsmittel benutzt. Die Verwendung von Pigmenten, die in Wasser aufgeschwemmt sind, und Reispaste als eine Art Bindemittel ergeben transparente Farben wie beim Aquarell. Schwarz wird in der Regel mit japanischer Tusche gedruckt. Statt einer Presse wird ein Handreiber verwendet, dessen Druckwirkung individuell kontrolliert werden kann.
